School board inks Google payment deal
The school district is poised to make millions from a planned data center in Sand Springs.
Meeting Monday afternoon in special session, the Sand Springs school board unanimously approved a resolution committing the school district to a tax-incentive agreement with the city of Sand Springs, Tulsa Tech, and two companies developing a Google data center in the city.
A pledge agreement related to the data center deal that also was approved will result in a Google payment of $500,000 to the school district, perhaps as early as July.

The data center is being planned for 827 acres of land the city annexed last summer near Oklahoma 97 and 56th Street North.
Four taxing entities lay claim to the property – the city of Sand Springs, Sand Springs Public Schools, Tulsa Tech and Osage County, although only the first three are participating in the tax-incentive agreement.
Sand Springs Public Schools’ approval was the last one needed among the three local partners to the agreement.
